What is the difference between awning and casement windows?

Awning Windows – hinged at the top, awning windows push out from the bottom, usually with a manual or electric chain winder. Awning windows provide both ventilation and protection from the rain.

Casement Windows – hinged on the side and opening like a door, casement windows are easy to manage, look great, and provide a great deal of ventilation.

U-Values

U-values are the measure of how much heat is transferred through a window or door. The lower the U-value the more efficient it is at keeping the heat or cold out.

Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC)

SHGC measures how much solar radiation passes through a window or door. In a cool climate, a high SHCG will allow more solar heat to enter your home.

ONE Apartments

Duration: June 2024 – September 2025

Hunter Windows manufactured, supplied and installed a complete glazing package for ONE Apartments, a dual-tower residential development located in Newcastle West.

The scope incorporated extensive glazing systems across both towers and podium levels, totalling 9,116m³ of glazing and 3,697 individual glass panels.

Key inclusions:

  • Podium Levels (GF–L3): Shopfronts, sliding and hinged doors, fixed glazing, and awning windows for commercial and residential areas

  • South Tower (L4–L19 + Roof): Mixture of sliding doors, fixed glazing, hinged doors and awning windows

  • North Tower (L4–21 + Roof): Mixture of sliding doors, fixed glazing, hinged doors and awning windows

  • Winter Gardens: Fixed glazing and Safetyline Jalousies

Comprehensive design and compliance processes included:

  • 372 shop drawings prepared to document the project

  • 349 QA ITPs completed to verify installation quality

  • Water testing completed in conjunction with façade consultant Indesco and third-party testing to ensure design compliance and watertightness
